This morning brings news that our new President Elect is Barack Obama. Saying President Obama has a funny ring to it but as Americans we have 4 years to grow accustomed to it. We will also have many new and different ideas to grow accustomed to as our new president leads us into an "Era of change and reform".
I write this in response to the reaction I've seen among the majority of my Christian/Conservative friends and Colleagues. It appears that because we have a liberal President that Armageddon is upon us and the end of the world is near. It also seems that God allowing this travesty to take place Is a sign that his judgement is near. I would like to preface my response by saying I am very conservative and voted for McCain, and agree that for moral purposes he was the better candidate ( I.e. Abortion, Same Sex Marriage, etc...) but I think this idea that a liberal leader is the end of a successful America is a bit.... Fanatical. I agree it's not ideal but we have had liberal leaders before and we have fared just fine! We just need to trust that God has our best interests at heart!
I'd like to comfort you all with this scripture:
Romans 13:1 (NIV)
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorites that exist have been established by God"
Paul brings out here that all authority is established by God. God sees our situation here and not only sympothizes but made it happen this way... God put President Obama in his position and will accomplish his purpose through him.
So my friends we can stop this chatter about Armageddon, and the end of the world. God has it under control, let's not allow emotion or fanaticism get the better of us, but rather trust God made the right decision and move forward. Let's not allow discontent or emotion or even Fanatacism give the world another reason to peg us Christians as nutjobs with this end of the world Armageddon rhetoric... We give them enough reasons without adding this!
So here is what I propose...
Let's continue as good citizens to stand for our beliefs and vote accordingly and trust that the God who this country was established on is the same God he said he was in Romans 13, and let's place faith and trust in his decision!!

This election, by no means implies that Armageddon is near. What it does is set us back at least three Supreme Court Justices (who serve life terms-how ironic)in our fight for Life. Over the next four years...as people get what they asked for ('they know not what they ask')...which is LARGER Government to 'spread the wealth' and 'take care of us', Government will logically grow to create the circumstances that we asked for and were promised and to regulate the programs...larger government will be necessary to meet the promises made and there is only one way to pay for that...so what this election truly will prove is 1. Obama lied when he said he would do these things or 2. He lied when he said he would not raise taxes.
When 'Big Brother' is telling us what we should do and how to do it, then the majority will complain but the truth is...it will be what they asked for. They asked for a Government that would 'spread the wealth' and 'take care' of them. Truth is, we were blessed the moment we were born American and there is success available to every single American who is willing to seek it and believe. The majority of the population has become a poulation that has some sense of entitlement...this world owes us nothing...not one single thing and offers us everything (especially here in America). The sense that we are entitled to be taken care of is truly sad.
This election, unfortunately, didn't go the way the conservatives planned. However, who are we to judge and know that something good can or can not come from this election. Our jobs are no longer to debate but to pray for our new president. We will all have the ability to re-debate this situation in four years. Today, we need to ask God to not only heal this land but to give us the strength to endure in the trials ahead and to embrace the victories. We can not live a life of a "chicken little" mentality. If you want to argue the point that Obama is wrong or McCain is wrong, then so be it. That is why we have freedom of speech. Brandon, it's awesome that you have the mind of Christ and the ability to put it down. My prayer for you is that God continues to use you in such a mighty way and that His grace is supplied.
See Spot Run!
